Katherine
Calhoon joined Methow in Motion in May 2006.
Katherine moved to Okanogan County in 1987, then moved to the Methow Valley in
1998 after graduating from Western Washington University, where she took several
recreation courses and volunteered for Disabled Sports Northwest. Katherine has
three teenage daughters, a dog and a cat that keep her busy at her home in Twisp.
She enjoys the benefits of working out regularly, especially as they relate to
controlling pain after breaking her neck, back, hip, etc. in a horseback riding
accident several years ago. Katherine is excited to see other members with rehabilitation
issues benefit from being a part of Methow in Motion.

Kristin moved to the valley in 1997. She enjoys doing decorative welding, woodworking,
landscape designs and gardening. She also loves spending time with her horses
and dogs and exploring the woods in her jeep. Kristin has always been interested
in fitness and a proper balanced diet. She feels that both fitness and proper

Betty
Vaughn joined Methow in Motion in May 2006.
Betty has been a PE teacher and coach, and has had a lot
of experience coaching, teaching, and working out on free
weights and stacks. Betty says: “I’ve
found that the PACE system at Methow in Motion is so far superior to any other
because: 1) It’s simple 2) It works both sides of the muscle in tandem
3) It works cardiac and strength at the same time. I have a garden, a husband,
2 dogs and 4 cats. I also work at the Winthrop Information Center and I’m
very involved with the Methow Valley Artisan’s Shop in Winthrop (hand-crafting).
I don’t have the time or the inclination to mess around with long workouts,
figuring out how much weight I need to do today. This system fits right into
my lifestyle and my desire to stay fit efficiently and thoroughly and AT MY OWN
LEVEL AND PACE. Having been used to working out and staying fit all my life —this
was the answer to my needs. LIFE IS GOOD.

From the Owners:
Donna Bonn, Co-owner
As I have been asked many times since opening Methow in Motion, “How
did you decide to do this?” I thought that my personal story
might explain things a little. As with many women, when I hit the
big “4-0”, things began to change. Before that, I was
one of the fortunate ones who could eat anything and not gain a pound.
But, between 40 and 60, I managed to add an extra 50 pounds on my
body…YUK!!! In spite of being a gardener, regular walker/hiker
and cross-country skier, I kept adding on those nasty pounds.
Then, in September 2003, I was introduced to hydraulic interval circuit
exercise. THIS changed my life!!! I couldn’t believe the difference!
I was losing inches, enjoying it, and I had energy again! In 12 months,
I lost 50 pounds and almost 54 accumulative inches from my body and
my body fat percentage went from 39.1% to 30.9% (24 to 36% is my recommended
range).
In September 2004, my husband Wayne and I moved permanently to the
beautiful Methow Valley. (We had been part-timers for several years
and frequent visitors for many years before that.) As much as I was
looking forward to the move, I was apprehensive about leaving my exercise
program. I did NOT want to gain back the weight and inches I had spent
over a year losing. I decided to try and keep in shape on my own…depending
on my ¾ mile steep driveway and cross-country skiing. But,
by Fall 2005, it was obvious I was losing ground. Something had to
be done!
I researched exercise equipment, companies, and programs. I found
that just like any other business, research is all-important. Along
the learning curve I realized that a franchise wouldn’t work
for me. I realized that I wanted to have fun, enjoy my exercise and
that above all I wanted my center to have a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Then I discovered Pro-Fit Enterprises and PACE (Programmed/Accommodating/Circuit/Exercise)
equipment! This equipment exceeded the standards of the equipment
I had previously used. In addition, it had a strong recommendation
from numerous independent fitness centers as well as universities
and professional sports teams that used this equipment for cross-training.
This equipment was built sturdy enough for men to use as well as women.
The staff of Pro-Fit Enterprises had the expertise and the willingness
to walk me through all the steps necessary to get up and running in
addition to offering an on-site training workshop for myself and my
staff.
Early on I had determined that Twisp would be the logical location
for a new fitness center. But finding a space became a huge problem.
Most of the available commercial spaces were too small for even a
modest start-up fitness center. Finally, in March 2006 we found a
small but adequate location. Although it wasn’t as large as
I had initially planned, it would work for a start. So, the lease
was signed, the equipment was ordered, and the business license application
was mailed!
So here we are, open, with the help of many family, friends and supporters.
It has become a dream come true. Great staff has joined me and new
clients are coming every day.
I have realized that this is not just my dream but that of many women
and men, as they want to take charge of their own health and wellness.
I am so glad that we are doing this together and that I am meeting
so many new friends. I know that I can’t do it alone, whether
it is Methow in Motion or my weight and health issues, I need the
support of others. It’s that fun, supportive environment that
makes Methow in Motion work. We help one another live better, not
just longer.
Yours in Health,
Donna
Wayne Bonn, Co-owner
Wayne is the
man behind Methow in Motion! His patience, understanding, electrical,
plumbing,
and carpentry skills have all contributed to
Methow in Motion becoming a reality. He also was paramount in Methow
in Motion becoming a co-ed facility – available to the many
men in the valley that needed an exercise facility that met their
needs as well as those of women. So, all you guys out there, LISTEN
UP! Men are using Methow in Motion regularly and loving it!
